FAQs
Hiiiii!
Hiring a professional photographer can be intimidating if you’ve never done it before, but good news! I’ve done this over 1000 times, so I know the ropes. Here I’ll break down and questions you may have!
What types of photography do you specialize in?
I focus on commercial and editorial photography including portraits, fashion, product, lifestyle and event photography. Whether you’re looking for a polished campaign, standout branding images, or stunning product photos, I’ve got you covered.
Where are you located, do you travel for shoots?
Yes! I’m based in Toronto and partly Vancouver, but I’m available for shoots across Canada and internationally. Let me know your location, and we can make it happen!
What if I’ve never worked with a photographer before?
No problem at all! I work with first-time clients all the time and make the process smooth and stress-free. From planning your shoot to delivering the final images, I’ll guide you every step of the way.
Do you work with non-models or people who feel camera-shy?
Absolutely! Most of my clients aren’t professional models, and I specialize in making everyone look and feel amazing in front of the camera. A combo of your pump up playlist, puns, and a safe environment will bring out your best smiles and expressions. I sometimes feel like a dentist, most people find it similarly stressful before hand. I got you, you'll have fun and it'll be easier than you think!
What is the process for a typical photoshoot?
The shoot process is designed to be stress-free and enjoyable! Here’s how it works:
- Consultation: We’ll discuss your vision, needs, and goals. This includes planning the shoot, selecting a location, and nailing down the vibe.
- Pre-Production: I’ll handle all the logistics, from booking the studio or location to organizing hair, makeup, and styling if needed.
- The Shoot: We’ll have a relaxed and fun session where I guide you through poses, lighting, and expressions to get the perfect shots.
- Post-Production: After the shoot, I’ll provide a selection gallery for you to choose your favourite images. Once selected, I’ll edit and retouch them to perfection.
- Delivery: You’ll receive your final, polished images in multiple formats, ready to use for web, social media, print, or campaigns.
Throughout the process, I’m here to answer questions, offer guidance, and ensure you feel confident and excited about your shoot!
What’s your process for ensuring client satisfaction?
Clear communication and preparation are key. From pre-shoot consultations to detailed planning, I’ll make sure we’re on the same page every step of the way. After the shoot, I’ll provide proofs for your review and work closely with you to perfect the final images.
What is typically included in a quote?
Everything you need for a successful shoot! This usually includes pre-production, travel, studio rental, professional equipment, shoot time, a selection gallery, retouching, a photography assistant, and commercial usage rights.
If needed, we can add additional production elements like creative direction, location scouting, casting, project management, call sheets, moodboards, or extra location rentals. Just let me know what your project requires!
Do your quotes run over budget?
Almost never. I don’t believe in underquoting just to add hidden fees later—that’s not how I roll. If the scope of your project changes, we’ll discuss it clearly, and my invoices are itemized so you’ll always know what you’re paying for.
Can you recommend hair and makeup artists or stylists?
Yes, I work with an amazing network of professionals who can help with hair, makeup, and styling to elevate your shoot. Let me know what you need, and I’ll coordinate with my team to make it happen.
How many images will I receive?
This depends on the project! For example, events might require a larger collection of lightly polished images, while portrait sessions might focus on just 3-5 retouched images. My packages are tailored to fit your needs—let’s chat about what works best for you.
What are your payment terms?
I generally ask for a 50% deposit to secure your shoot date, with the remaining 50% due upon final image delivery. Preferred payment methods are e-transfer or bank deposit, but credit card processing is available by request.
Can I edit my own images or buy all the raw files?
Generally no, but there are exceptions. My .RAW files include the unique recipes and techniques that bring my portfolio to life. However, I’ve provided raw images to agency clients for an additional fee or when NDAs are required. Let me know if this applies to your project!
Can I resell your images?
Typically not. My images come with an exclusive commercial license tailored to your project. If you need additional licensing, I can add it at a fair and reasonable market rate.
Why do you deliver multiple versions of each image?
I want your images to look amazing wherever you use them! I typically provide:
- Small JPEGs for websites.
- Medium-resolution images for social media.
- High-resolution files for print and graphic design.
Need something specific? I can customize files to fit your exact specs.
What is “high-end detailed retouching,” and can’t AI do it now?
While I love technology, I haven’t found any program that matches the quality of my detailed retouching. If you know one, let me know! I'll invest 5 minutes to an hour per image, ensuring every photo looks flawless. Whether it’s a social media post or a billboard campaign, I’ll make sure your images are distraction-free and professional.
What’s your turnaround time for photos?
This depends on the scope of your project, but I aim for efficiency without compromising quality. For most projects, you’ll receive your selection gallery within [5] business days, and final retouched images 2 weeks after selections are made. This can be longer for bigger projects or rushed to accommodate tighter timelines (rush rate may apply).
How are my images backed up?
Every image I’ve taken is triple-backed up for at least 3 years. If you ever lose your files, just reach out—I can re-send the original set or offer additional edits at regular retouching rate.
What’s the difference between personal and commercial usage rights?
Personal usage is for private use, like prints or social media, while commercial usage allows businesses to use the images for marketing or advertising. My standard quotes include a tailored amount of personal or commercial use, but additional licensing can be arranged as needed.
What are some helpful tips to find photography inspiration images?
Pinterest is a great place to start. Look for anything that inspires you—it doesn’t have to be photos, but general examples of what you have in mind helps us align visually! You can reference parts of images as well
